Kitten Butch
Sometimes I pick up a book that I just want to keep for myself and any children that happen to be around. The art in “April’s Kittens” captivated me. Clare Turlay Newberry wrote and illustrated this tale about 4 cats in a 1-cat New York city apartment. Ms. Newberry copyrighted it in 1940, and was published by Harper & Bros. Publishers. She wrote and illustrated at least 4 more animal books: “Herbert the Lion,” “Barkis” about a cocker puppy (there’s a kitten in it, too), Babette about a Siamese kitten, and “Mittens” about guess what……kittens!
