Gil Lebria holding the oust-GMA slogan

Gil Lebria

Gil Lebria rasied a oust-GMA slogan in front of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO, the de facto Philippines embassy in Taiwan) in a protest action against the clamation of "State of Emergency" of GMA in Taiwan on 2006.2.28.

Gil had been working in the Mailiao Factory of the Formosa Plastic Company (FPC, one of the largest coporation group in Taiwan). Because of the grievances such as illegal deduction of salaries, sub-contracting had never been solved, he joined a two-day strike with other 600 Filipino workers on July 14- 15, 2005. After two weeks, he was repatriated forcibly with manby other Filipino workers. On the way to the CKS Airport, the controllers demanded them to sign on a piece of paper they don't understand, they knew it must be something bad for their rights, so they refused. For punishing and thratening, Gil and three other OFWs were beaten-up severely. He was helped by other OFWs to get on the flight with wounds and blood all around his body. Luckily, he was entertained by a Filipino stewardess, and she helped them to take off in Hong Kong for medication and call the police. We've tried very hard to invite Gil to come on October, 2005 to sue FPC and all relevant agencies, not only for his rights, but also for those who were beaten-up and repatriated, and all the migrant workers in FPC and all around Taiwan!
