Re-imagining Ruskin (6 of 6)

In 1875 Ruskin created a free access museum in the Walkey district of Sheffield,. the intention was to educate and inform local workers of the arts, botany, architecture. ect.. The museum closed in 1990, but the collection is now re-housed in a larger city centre museum.

The images here are a post -romantic re-imagining of the Walkey, Loxley and Rivelin areas of the city, all areas Ruskin considered places of outstanding natural beauty. Ruskin thought that the area possessed similar qualities to the Italianate vistas of classic European art.

These pieces were commissioned by the Guild of St. George, an institution founded by Ruskin & still continuing his work today.
