02/11/2007 (Day 337) - Morning Sun At The Maiwand Memorial
I was back in Reading today for the last part of my Java Programming course, and took the opportunity to pose against the magnificent Maiwand Memorial in Forbury Gardens.
The memorial commemorates the 329 men of the 66th Foot (later Royal Berkshires) who died at the Battle of Maiwand in 1880. More details here.
The Battle of Maiwand is important to Sherlock Holmes enthusiasts (of which I am one), as it was in this action that Dr Watson received the wound that invalided him out of the army and led to him taking up lodgings with Great Detective. The rest is history ...
I did a much better version of this shot on Wednesday, but chose to abandon it in favour of the Vampire Bunny one, as it was Hallowe'en. It was overcast on Wednesday, so there was no glare from the sun. I'l probably post it to the Reject pool over the weekend, though.
