South Easthope Evangelical United Church
Coming home from a family function in Stratford, Ontario we opted to take back roads for the initial part of the trip. This took us through agricultural areas with sparsely distributed buildings. On a section of Perth County Line 33 in Perth East, we came across an isolated little church now looking little used, the South Easthope Evangelical United Church. The building itself looks like it needs some tender loving care. But it has a simple, no-nonsense look characteristic of an other era in mid-Western Ontario. - JW

Taken using a tripod-mounted Nikon D800 fitted with an AF-S Nikkor 24-120mm VR 1:4.0 lense set to 38mm, ISO100, Auto WB, Aperture Priority Mode, f/8.0, 1/80 sec. PP in free Open Source RAWTherapee from Nikon RAW/NEF source file: set final image size to be 9000px wide, level the image, set exposure compensation to EV+0.35, crop the image (preserving the original aspect ratio) by cutting of a bit off the left and bottom, level the image and correct perspective distortion, enable Tone Mapping at default levels, slightly boost Contrast and Chromaticity in L-A-B mode, slightly boost Vibrance, use Tone Curve 2 in parametric mode and boost Shadows and Darks while dropping highlights a bit, sharpen (edges only), save. PP in free Open Source GIMP: process the image as 2 layers top one dedicated for sky adjustment and bottom one for church adjustment, add a black/transparent layer mask to the top/sky layer and the use a white/opaque paint and a large soft-edged brush to paint in the sky, boost the contrast and brightness of the sky to bring out the skies better, on the bottom/church layer use the Contrast-Brightness tool to boost contrast a bit, use the Curves tool to brighten the brick details a bit, boost saturation in the church layer somewhat, create new working layer from visible result, sharpen, save, scale image to 6000 px wide, sharpen, save, add fine black-and-white frame, add bar and text on left, save, scale image to 3000 px wide for posting online, sharpen very slightly, save.
