Snowfall On Beech Leaves
This is another image from a few weeks ago, just after a mid-November wet snowfall. We hiked through Beamers Falls Conservation Area atop the Niagara Escarpment in Grimsby, Ontario. The beeches were, as always, the last to lose their leaves, and the reddish-brown colour added a bit of colour to the otherwise monotone grey at this time of year. You can see the water drops on the twigs, a testament to the sloppy snow conditions. JW
Date Taken: 2014-11-17
Tech Details:
Taken using a tripod-mounted Nikon D7100 fitted with a Tamron 90mm f/2.8 Macro lense, ISO100, Aperture priority mode, f/5.0, 1/100 sec with an EV+0.33 exposure bias to compensate for snow reflectance. PP in free Open Source RAWTherapee: slightly increase exposure, boost black level, adjust colour balance to get a more neutral background, slightly increase vibrance, apply noise reduction, sharpen. PP in free Open Source GIMP: adjust the tone curve to bring up the centre point of the curve upward/lighten slightly, sharpen, add fine black and white frame, add bar and text on left, scale to 1800 wide for posting.
