Byodo-In
A must stop for any photographer visiting Oahu, the Byodo-In buddhist temple is located in the Valley of the Temples near Kanehoe.
A half sized replica of the nearly 1000 year old Byodo-In temple located near Kyoto, Japan, it was completed in 1968 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the arrrival of japanese culture to Hawaii. It also differs from the original as it is built mostly of concrete whereas the original is all wood and built without the use of nails.
Home to a carved Amida Buddha which is covered in gold leaf and is reputed to be the largest one outside of Japan at 9 ft tall.
