as a kid living on a corner lot beside a park in Etobicoke, we always got deep drifts across our front yard & driveway, resulting in piles that just seemed to require hollowing out. if i find more of these early attempts at working with snow, i'll post'em but these're all i've found so far of any real relevance.
what i wish i had were shots of one of the quinzees i built at the corner of the house, which grew out from the huge, crisply-covered drift crossing the front yard that i was able to tunnel under & scrape upward to make "skylights" (couldn't see through them but they certainly let the light in!).
