Myrtle Island

not too long before the Lansdowne Tower came down, i'd been contacted by Brian Nash, who was filming a documentary on bpNichol ("bp (pushing the boundaries)"). when he found out the tower had to come down, he wanted to film its dismemberment as a series of stills as the boards came off, then run them backward to get an animated version of it going up. that plot wasn't able to occur (too bad!) &, since he wanted the footage for an as-yet unknown reason for the Nichol film, he proposed finding a place to reconstruct the thing so he could film it going up. he came up with Myrtle Island, a small lump of treed rock in Georgian Bay (see map) owned by a friend of his (Kate Greco) who thought the idea amusing. over the course of a weekend, we erected the replacement (which can be seen throughout the film), which in no way achieved the stature of the first tower &, ultimately (before we even had a chance to return for further work), came down in an uncertain manner (i've heard conflicting reports from the same source). the 4 photographs here by Peggy Lefler catch it just after its halfway point, part of another floor being added before the crash.
