Walkley yards

Ottawa's Walkley railyards used to be a busy & inventive place, piggyback traffic, for instance, in Canada originating there (in the 195os? i've a clipping i can dig out about this...) with the over-the-top innovation of a raised platform to back onto flatcars from. it was half & half CP & CN when i got to know it in the late'9os, the last decade of its general usefulness to freight traffic.
when highway 416 was built, that severed the CP line in from Smiths Falls & the CP (north) side of the yard was abandoned, buildings razed, & the remainder given over to the then-new O-Train. CN's service was failing on their line up from Couteau & they sold out to the the Ottawa Central Railroad, who revamped the service & made it all work again, at which point it was purchased back by CN, who promptly fucked everything up again, after which it became something of a wasteland.
as of a recent visit (october 2o16), it seems to be semiäctive again, a consist of boxcars & a large transformer on a flatcard in the yard, besides the usual chemical hoppers & Procor tankers. let's hope...
