caboose installations

by jwc 3o2

sometime in i think 1993, my raillery friend, Lance LaRocque, suggested we should tape up a copy of one of the many photographs we'd been shooting in cabeese IN a caboose. he never did specify which of them &, after continuous pesterment to continued puzzlement, i just photocopied ALL the photos that were either "in, of or from cabeese" (or happened to have a caboose in them) & off a bunch of us went to tape'em up in a random collage. Gio Sampogna documented that first installation, obsolescing the thing as he did so (since it was supposed to be ALL the shots up until the time of its completion), so it was determined that we'd do it again & include the shots he got that night (& whatever else might accrue in the meantime). this continued a coupla times until a 2-month freight tour in 1995, when 4 of us took 5 prepared sets of 18o photocopied photographs with us, getting 3 of them up en route & another set later that fall. the last set – with over 1ooo additional shots – is still intended to go up sometime but the ultimate plan's become somewhat complex & it may be a while yet before it happens, since it'll involve more or less papering an entire caboose (among other things). thanks to the contributors (photos & effort) thus far: Jennifer Books, Nicky Drumbolis, Chris Kubsch, Lance LaRocque, Gustave Morin, Brian Sale, Gio Sampogna & Kim Thompson.
