kids on the river 17
day 13. this is a strange semirepetition of something that occurred in one of the first quinzees we built in Toronto. we had, the previous summer, built a cave in the backyard, tunnelling straight down then out into a small chamber. when winter hit, we covered the entrance to The Pit with a board & built the quinzee over it, boring in such a way that the entrance to The Pit would be in the secondary chamber. when we opened it & went down (& keep in mind that it'd been months since it'd been sealed with a coupla tons of snow), we found a transparent mosquito – quite alive but v,e,r,y s,l,o,w – clinging to the dirt where it curved around to become the ceiling. ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
today, down at the river, this guest in the quinzee.
from whence?
