Woman's Visage [study?]
by Garányiné Staindl.
1968, Hungary, glazed & fired chamotte.
found in the garbage in Hintonburg.
Staindle (1928-2oo2) began working in ceramics in about 1953 in Budapest. Woman's Visage sold at auction by 1st Dibs (www.1stdibs.com/furniture/decorative-objects/sculptures/f...). this work appears to be a study toward it, with a shorter neck, differently positioned perforations (the opening in the front of her crown, for instance, is on the left), far more blue glaze (the auctioned face quite yellow), more vertical crosshatching to her hair, & a different system of structural support at rear, among other things.
