"Another way to counteract the official spectacle was undertaken by the Canadian artist Larry Rosnuk, who lives alternately in Canada and Chamonix (France). He is a member of the Southern Edge Art Gallery in Port Colborne near Niagara Falls, founded by artists last year. In August 1982, he wrote to around 100 Canadian artists, from Michael Snow and Riopelle to art students, and sent them a Gestetner wax matrix. He asked them to draw something on it and then return it to him. With the help of a contribution of $40 for each artist, the works were to be reproduced and distributed as gifts to the population in both parts of Berlin. Twelve artists responded, including Dennis Lukas, B.P. Nicol, Marc St. Martin, Felix Forte, and Mary Prittie. In December 1982, Rosnuk personally came to West Berlin and had a print run of 1,000 of all the works produced.

On one day, around 50 helium-filled balloons, each containing a set of the works, were sent over the Wall at Kreuzberg's Mariannenplatz as a greeting to the East Berlin population. A large portion of the remaining print run was lowered as a rain of leaves from West Berlin's Europa Center, an office tower next to the Memorial Church. In this way, the Canadian artists addressed a general foreign audience for the first time in a self-determined action, albeit with small participation. This cross-border action is a remarkable step for Canada, where artists readily rely on state aid."
