Île Young is host to 3 species of heron: night heron (most prolifically, with many nests mainly at the west end (the cormorants dominating the east)), blue heron (which may or may not nest there but certainly feed in its shallows) & white heron/egrets, all of which are extremely suspicious of humans (& rightly so, given some of the behaviour evidenced at the river recently).
this is the closest i've managed to get, with Mauri manning the paddle to get us in slowly & quietly.
