baby robin(?) 1
not sure but it could maybe've been a redwinged blackbird: the photographs i can find of babies at this stage are very similar.
encountered on an island not under a visible nest. as can be seen in a coupla later images, a beak-shaped tear to the right side of its head suggests it was picked off from a nest by another bird. contrary to what the photosequence itself suggests, it did not die in my hand: i was leaving the island & tucked it outta the sun in a hollow under a tree but, on return, later found that it'd staggered/dragged itself around, tumbled down the rocks to the water & drowned.
