the vertical lines in the ice just right of bottom center are pressure marks from the shovel & show where a previous clearing edge had been formed by reaching out from safe ice to drag snow back with the shovel upside down (so, using the upper edge of the blade to gently scrape with so as not to dig into the slushy ice surface underneath).
the line of dots that bisect the shovelmarks are fox tracks.
only the farthest thin horizontal line of dark is open water: the rest is black ice, some with a thin layer of water superimposed.
