kids on the river 6:32
day 8
a footnote: the ice today was crickling & cracking relatively constantly. one good noise was a brittle crinkling that started near shore at the north end of Île Ecuiel & moved in a semicircle around the quinzee & back to shore near the south end of the island (about 135 feet). clearly, the weight of the snowpile is creating constant reädjustment of the overall ice sheet.
while i was shooting some previous photographs, a loud grinding erupted behind me that sounded like the whole sheet being torn but it was that ice floe at center left smashing into the sheet i was on, grinding along edge to edge as it turned & spun back out into the open water.
