Reduvius personatus

(masked hunter)

untweaked attempt at depicting one of the strangest insects i've seen, this only the 2nd time i've ever come across it.

in appearance, it looks like a beetle that has been stepped on in mud & somehow, despite being squashed & covered in dirt, managed to pick itself up & wander away.

apparently, only the nymphs use this camouflage; the adult stage is longer, black, doesn't look squashed, is more svelte all around.
