hammer

this hammer's acquiring some turbulent history, quite well reflected in its now-tortured shape.

in 2o13 or '14, the canal feeding hydro station 2 on Victoria Island was drained for cleaning & repairs. an exploration of its bottom took us under the Booth Street bridge, where this hammer was found, evidently having been underwater for several years (the rubber handle very drained of colour).

it was used in the construction of the TesserActual Artetfact Gallery on Île Yvette-Naubert in 2o14-15 & hung there as an artefact. when the gallery burned down in 2o15, it was found in the remains of the fire, not yet bent & still usable.

it was then donated to Pierre Pouseux, a guy who was living in CatKiller Cabin beside Squaw Bay & modifying it toward winter, primarily by erecting thick stone walls around 3 sides of it. kids attempted to burn down the cabin but were chased away by other kids, who then put out the fire. it was then collapsed (seemingly by someone having jumped up & down on the roof) & rebuilt by Pierre. finally, it was torched & burned to the ground. the wall stones were then used by me to build a jetty at the end of Squaw Bay. after a significant portion of them had been removed, i found the hammer, warped by the heat & crush of the fall of rock.

it's now back in the 2nd version of the gallery as an artefact, severely the worse for wear but one of the only surviving traces of the previous structure & its collection.
