a short serendipity
some time back, i was biking from Hintonburg up to the river &, scooting across Scott from Garland, i saw a box at the foot of a pole & stopped to look inside, finding a small stack of books. one of these was Roger Caron's Jojo (1988). i'd previously read his Go-Boy! (1978) & an interview in Only Paper Today, both of which convinced me he was just a goof (his only real claim to fame being that he's escaped prison more times than anyone else – though, this must also mean he's been caught more times than anyone else, too, which kinda negates any sense of "accomplishment" his prison breaks may imply). Go-Boy! is "nonfiction"; his prison memoirs. Jojo was his attempt at writing a novel. i'd not read it & thought "OK, give him a chance, maybe his fiction is better". no such luck. the book sucks & was sacrificed on completion. however, on the way through, i found someone's old bookmark: a small ziplock baggie with this piece of printed blotter paper in it (& a smaller chunk). i've found many entertaining things over time but this is the first & only time i've ever found LSD. the print – which appears to be a roaring British lion – is totally unfamiliar to me (not that i'd been a complete acidhead). anyone out there have any clue as to what the "brandname"is?
