THEORY OF MAILING
by David Aylward.
[3rd edition. Toronto, Underwhich Editions, 3 july 1985. [2oo+ copies issued as part of Heads & H&z, edited by jwcurry & Michael Dean; not released separately].
3-1/2 x 2, rubberstamp broadside in 3-1/2 x 2-1/4 envelope printed rubberstamp & letterpress recto only over Canada Post 1¢ postage stamp (Bottle Gentian by Heather J.Cooper/engraved by Yves Baril, issued 22 april 1977 as part of the Wildflowers Of Canada series in an edition, it seems, of just short of 74-quadrillion copies). a concrete poem.
ever the fugitive, THEORY OF MAILING was initially intended to be published in BLIPS, a pamphlet edited by bpNichol in the mid'6os that wasn't ultimately published until 2oo6 as 1cent 376. it was instead released separately as a broadsheet by Ganglia Press in 1968 in an edition of approximately 1oo copies as 5¢ Mini Mimeo 8 & reprinted by Curvd H&z in an inappropriate format in 198o as Pomez A Penny 37 in a slightly smaller edition as the first of a series of reprints from the 5¢ series. somehow, it escaped inclusion in Aylward's collection of like material, WOURNEYS (Ganglia, 1968) but this further-revised-format reprint was one of the 60-odd fascicles produced for the boxed HEADS & H&Z anthology of reprints of Curvd H&z publications. unfortunately, as much as a third of the run of the anthology was destroyed in a flood while in Underwhich storage, only the small overrun of "safeties" surviving.
