next view come daylight
so much for tower 3. i was sincerely hoping to find the skull of the asshole who didn't keep checking the candles, which already-empty bone i would've gladly nailed above the doorway of the next version we assemble.
on inspecting the remains, it seems that the fire started on the top floor; if it'd started below, it's likely the tower would've toppled & taken out more trees than it did. as it was, it seems to've collapsed straight down into itself, leaving a relatively thin layer of ash covering a mess of nails & endless clots of melted glass.
the great thing about doing stuff out in public is that others get to enjoy the things.
the shitty thing about doing stuff out in public is that others get to destroy the things.
it has been suggested this was arson but i don't buy that, chalking it up instead to terminal stupidity. i've had a few close calls myself with fire (here & elsewhere) & candles require constant monitoring. dunno what'd been going on over there but whoever it was attempted to spike the 2 stacked logs together (building something to stand on to paint on the tower?) &'d moved a coupla chairs, certain evidence that it wasn't my error that caused the carnage.
at bottom right is the firepit, which appeared not to've been used.
at bottom left is the armload of sticks Jess dropped in shock when she walked into the clearing. a rubbermaid tub about 2o feet away had begun to melt from the intense heat.
i will have more to write about this randomly as we go along.
