Stars over Manarola
After an incredible dinner at Trattoria dal Billy, we walked back to our room and pulled up a lounge chair on our private terrace with a glass of limoncello. It was a lot darker than the camera makes it look, and after a minute or two of stargazing we noticed the milky way was visible, so I ran to grab my camera.
I haven't done a whole lot of astrophotography, but I did what I could with the equipment I had. I was trying to save weight and only brought 2 lenses to Europe, and both were F4. I grabbed my 17-40 and opened it up to F4, cranked up the ISO, and let it shoot for 30 seconds. I was happy to see the stars were visible, albeit a little dark and with a fair amount of noise. I followed up the high ISO exposure with a round of brackets for the city. I merged the city bracket using the Lightroom 32-bit HDR plug-in, then I masked in the sky from the long exposure for the stars using photoshop.
