Eros
A closer look.
This 2nd Century AD Roman marble is a copy of a 4th century BC work by Lysippos. The Greek bronze original was a favorite of the ancient Romans and several of these copies have survived.
Eros/Cupid, the Greek/Roman god of love, is depicted here as a winged adolescent with a bow. Despite the name, Eros does not look like he is stringing his bow, perhaps he is bending it, testing its flexibility.
