Galactic Arch over the Périgord Noir (FRANCE) ✨
For this first complete arch of the summer Milky Way, I'm taking you once again to Dordogne... The next one might just be a Chilean arch! But for now, let’s stay here, in the countryside around Montignac (you can spot a few lights from the town on the left side of the image), more precisely in the commune of Valojoulx, just 1.5 km from the Château de Losse and about 3 km as the crow flies from the (real) Lascaux Cave 😁
This 180° panorama required about fifty individual shots. On the left, you can make out the constellation Cassiopeia; in the center, towering over the arch, the constellation Cygnus, accompanied by many glowing red nebulae; and on the right, near the horizon, the galactic bulge – the heart of our Milky Way – along with the Rho Ophiuchi nebula complex.
Astrophotography enthusiasts will easily recognize the famous “Summer Triangle”: Deneb in Cygnus, Vega at the top center, and Altair below the arch. Some faint airglow (luminescence from the atmosphere) can be seen on the horizon…
In the foreground, a wheat field and a dry-stone hut with a lauze (stone-slab) roof, typical of certain regions in the Southwest. Usually circular in shape, this one stands out with its rectangular design. These structures were once used as temporary shelters by shepherds or farmers!
Panorama of 54 photos – Sigma fp – 28mm f/1.4 Sigma – f/1.8 – 13s per shot – ISO 1600
