Terracotta Army
The Terracotta Army is a collection of terracotta sculptures depicting the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China. Dating from 3rd century BC, the 8,000 soldiers, 130 chariots with 520 horses and 150 cavalry horses (estimated figures) were meant to to help guard his empire in his afterlife. The mausoleum construction took several decades and up to 700,000 workers over this period of time. The Terracotta Army was discovered in the spring of 1974 by a group of farmers when they were digging a water well and the excavations and restorations of the sculptures have been ongoing since then.
