Tunis; flags adorn the souk to mark General Election day, for the election of the President and Chamber of Deputies. At that time, Tunisia was a one-party state, with the Socialist Destourian Party (PSD) as the sole legal party. In the election, Habib Bourguiba was re-elected unopposed as President, and in March 1975 was declared President-for-life by the Chamber of Deputies.
