Berneray Machair

.........and I thought Machair was a slim laptop from apple! All across the Outer Hebrides, the Machair is a strip of fertile grassland between the sea and the inner land peat. It provides a lovely rich carpet of wild flowers such as Irish Lady's Tresses, orchids, Yellow Rattle and buttercups and daisies.

In the distance is the westward facing beach at Berneray, and as reported by the BBC, a stock photo of which was once used by the Thailand Tourist Board to promote Thai tourism. Despite the evident beauty of the place, dipping your toe in the water would instantly tell you this in not the warm South China seas but the brass monkey North Atlantic! Mind you, the nearest settlement is called Port Nan Long - sounds a bit Thai doesn't it?
