Dawn at Cobbossee Lake

One of central Maine's larger lakes, and arguably one of the most scenic. There are numerous wooded islands and areas of undeveloped shoreline. It covers nearly 9 square miles, with 62 miles of shoreline.

Cobbossee is a shortened version of Cobbosseecontee, which in the Wakanaki language means "plenty of sturgeon."

As long time Flickr friends know, I take photos here fairly often, thanks to the kind permission of a landowner. I keep coming back, because I am sure that the lake has not yet revealed all its beauty to me. One of the joys of photography is to gain a deeper appreciation and love for one's subject matter as years and seasons pass.

Thank you for visiting!
