Dormammu

Originally Dormammu possessed a humanoid form. He was once a sorcerer of great mystical power in the dimension of the Faltine. For unknown reasons he was exiled from this dimension and found refuge in a small pocket universe known as the Dark Dimension, where the laws of reality are different than those of Earth's.

 

Dormammu gained the trust of the Dark Dimension's ruler and showed him how to break down interdimensional barriers and absorb other denominational barriers. Thus greatly expanding the Dark Dimension. After many years of expanding it was discovered one of the absorbed pocket cosmos was home to the savage creatures known as the Mindless Ones. They spread destruction throughout the Dark Dimension and killed the ruler.

 

Dormammu created a mystical barrier to hold back the Mindless Ones, which still exists today. The people of the Dark Dimension made Dormammu their new ruler for saving them. He then transformed himself into pure mystical energy, thus enabling himself to use his vast magical powers more efficiently.

 

Dormammu had sough to conquer the Earth dimension for an unknown number of Earth centuries. He had always been frustrated by the Sorcerers Supreme, each of whom used the Amulet of Agomotto as a weapon against him. The most recent Sorcerer Supreme, Stephen Strange, had become Dormammu's greatest foe.
