The urban landscape is full of opportunities for an observant eye. Besides the obvious opportunities to discover people going about their lives in everyday situations, there are inanimate scenes that, when observed carefully, present themselves almost as paintings. Scenes like this one make me feel like I am painting on a canvas with my camera.

Tomorrow night, at 7pm Chicago Time (CST) which is 8pm for most of you in Indiana, Tamarkin Camera and Leica Camera USA will be broadcasting an Artist's Talk discussing my new book "Shooting". You can watch this broadcast by simply clicking the link below a few minutes before the event is set to start; make sure you have the latest version of the Zoom app installed on your computer:

"Shooting" is photo essay that points a bright light on two relevant topics in our society: the ease of access to guns by the mentally ill, and the ability of art (in my case photography) to heal the impacts of significant trauma. It is a true story of what happened to me and my family, over 60 years ago, when a mentally ill man walked into our home with a loaded shotgun, shot my father and nearly killed him, then shot my mother at point blank range and instantly killed her. Me, my family, and in many respects, the entire community, was never the same.

"Shooting" tells the story, in words and in photographs, of not just a horrific shooting with a gun, but how shooting with a camera was instrumental in healing the trauma I had so deeply buried inside my soul for forty years. It is a truly spellbinding story of love, loss, grief, struggle, faith, hope, and recovery.

On the next day, Friday March 1, you will be able to purchase "Shooting" by going to my website: www.jsricephotography.com

Once you are on my website, simply click on the heading "Books", select "Shooting" and then place your order. I have published a limited edition of only 250 copies of this book and I have not yet decided whether additional press runs will be made should the First Edition sell out. So if you are interested, I suggest you make your purchase sooner rather than later, as the book is on sale internationally. The cost is only $40 (USD) plus shipping.
