Two Perspectives, One Frame: Diptychs in Half-Frame Photography

Diptych storytelling is an enjoyable benefit of half frame cameras like the Pentax 17. The unique format lets the photographer capture two perspectives of a scene or object within a single frame of film. The diptych lets photographers portray sequential actions, shifts in mood, or complementary angles of a subject side by side, encouraging viewers to engage more deeply with the story or image. The format naturally guides the eye across both images, with subtle differences and connections adding depth and perspective to the narrative. In this diptych I used the Pentax 17 to capture the sleek, timeless styling of a vintage MG’s exterior while also revealing the car’s classic interior design.
