The Crunge
99/365. 23/12/08.
Houses of the Holy. Side 1, Track 4.
Studio version. Led Zeppelin get funky! A studio jam that evolved into a sort of homage to James Brown. John Paul Jones on bass and synthesiser (horns) shines on this track. The vocals always annoyed me though.
Live version from Dallas 1975. No visuals. The song wasn't usually performed live by itself but was incorporated into the Whole Lotta Love medley. So, this starts with WLL and then launches into The Crunge and then into a theramin solo by Jimmy. You can really hear JPJ laying down a funky groove on the bass during this. No wonder it's one of his favourites.
PS. Couldn't think of anything to go with this title so the pic is the back of the dragon suit jacket. I guess it could be a dragon called Crunge?
PPS. Warner (who must own Atlantic Records) have started pulling their stuff off YouTube. That includes Led Zeppelin :(
Hopefully I'll still be able to find clips.
