Als besonderes äußeres Merkmal ist manchmal auch ein weißer Augenring zu sehen, von dem aus sich ein weißer Strich bis etwa zur Mitte des Kopfes nach hinten zieht. Tiere, die dieses Merkmal zeigen, werden auch als Brillen- oder Ringellummen bezeichnet. Allerdings ist der Augenring kein Kennzeichen einer eigenen Art oder Unterart, sondern lediglich eine Farbvariante. Die Farbvariante kommt in einem Nord-Süd-Gefälle von 50 Prozent in den arktischen Populationen bis Null Prozent in Portugal vor. [Quelle: Wikipedia]
