Hotel Inglaterra

by juanporeilly

The Inglaterra has witnessed more of Havana's growth and cultural enrichment than any other hotel in the city. Founded on December 23, 1815, and declared a National Monument in 1981, it is in the center of the city, facing onto Parque Central, next to the Gran Theater, the home of the National Ballet and just a few steps from the Capitol of the Republic. The neoclassical magnificence of its facade is in harmony with the pronounced Mudejar accent of its interior decoration, giving it a singular elegance. Many celebrities from the world of arts and letters have stayed at the Inglaterra, including Sarah Bemhardt, Luis Mazsantini, Imperio Argentina, Anna Paviova, Antonio Maceo, and Raul Capablama - all eminent Cuban figures - have stayed here. More recently, the Inglaterra has welcomed some of the most outstanding Cuban artists, writers and composers, who have presented their work in this distinguished representative of Cuban architecture, history and culture.
