Stripped

A smile, so warm and bright,

Even the sun is no match,

A fragrance, delicate,

Tempting, hard to catch.

Hair rippling down in golden waves,

Like wheat in the summer breeze,

The look in those eyes,

Is one with a mystical tease.

Her body, beauty blessed,

Is strong with fertility.

Willing to hand the gift of new life,

With unselfish humility.

But alas, as modern courtesy,

Tends to be somewhat rude,

Her virtues are all stripped

To a mere: “The Nude”.

Statue by Wladimier de Vries

(1953) to express the bond between

The city of Groningen and the

rich farmlands.

Agriculture is her official name.

Over the years she adopted

the nickname Nude Bet (Blote Bet).
