Care and neglect

A very fit looking tall ship passing by the resting place of the much neglected SS United States, which sits rusting at an inaccessible pier for lack of a buyer. They should get with the program and turn this into an as-is tourist attraction, like the fabulously decrepit Alcatraz and the equally decaying Eastern State Penitentiary in Philly, which is one of the city's top tourist draws despite being little more than a pile of crumbling stone. There is great romance to ruins; I have a vivid memory of being in the unheated Eastern State on a fairly warm winter day when the fog inside was thick enough to lend a film noire atmosphere to the place. However, with ships and rust, it's never that easy. Check the comments below by Chris Elliott.
