Kenroku-en, the most famous of the three great gardens of Japan, was originally constructed in 1676. It is a 25 acre area on the grounds of Kanazawa Castle--opened to the public in 1875. It is appropriately named because it contains all six (roku) elements which make up a perfect garden: extensiveness, quiet seclusion, artificial construction, antique elegance, abundant water and wide perspective.
