Nishi Hongan-ji: Shirosho-in

The kyozo (sutra repository) is normally not open to the public, but the architecture is beautiful. It is also known as the shirosho-in (white study hall).

Nishi Hongan-ji is a Buddhist temple located in Kyoto, Japan. It's twin, Higashi Hongan-ji, is close by. The Hongan-ji split in the early 1600's by Ieyasu to curtail their potential power. Previously, Oda Nobunaga had destroyed the Ishiyama Hongan-ji citadel (at the site Osaka castle), basically for being a nuisance. The original home of the Hongan-ji was on the site of Otani Hon-byo in 1321. It is part of the Jodo Shinshu or True Pure Land sect.
