The Journeyman Photographer
Assignment #1 - Portraits
Persduaded my mother-in-law to sit in for this assignment. Thought it would lift her mood up a bit, she's been feeling rather blue these past few weeks - and it did! She got a big kick out the the "portrait with a finger raised" bit... ;)
Shot tethered, using a 131DD on top of a dollied tripod. Tethering made it easy for her to "click" when she took my shots.
Strobist info:
3 x 580EX II's in total, on manual. Close in, so I can keep f11 for decent depth-of-field.
Key is camera right, shot through a home-made beauty-dish, the 580EX II-adapted New Zealand equivalent to David X. Tejada's contraption - davidtejada.blogspot.com/2008/04/beauty-dish-for-sb-800.html
The background-light is gridded + 2xCTB, magic-armed to the rail at the back, one stop below key.
The edge/fill-light camera left is tightly gridded, two stops below key, just to bring out the shadow side a bit.
Set-up shot available in the Bootcamp II set.
