Rio Yelcho - Puerto Cardenas (Patagonia Chile)
El Lago Yelcho es una gran lago ubicado 40 kms al sur de Chaiten. Es muy conocido por sus aguas color verde esmeralda y por ser un excelente lugar para la pesca deportiva, por lo que en sus riberas hay numerosos refugios. Esta rodeado de altas montañas y de una frondosa vegetacion de bosque patagonico templado lluvioso siempreverde. En la desembocadura de lago donde nace el Rio Yelcho, en Puerto Cardenas se ubica uno de los hitos de la Carretera Austral, un puente colgante de 250 mts de largo construido en 1989 el pimero de su tipo en el pais. Este puente pemitio conectar territorios casi inexploradoras al sur de la Carretera Austral y unir la Region de Aysen con la Region de los Lagos. La carretera bordea el lago en gran parte de su extension ofreciendo bellas vista del entorno natural asi como tambien permite acceder facilmente al sendero del Glaciar Yelcho.

La Carretera Austral o Ruta CH-7, nace en la ciudad de Puerto Montt, recorriendo mas de 1.240 kilómetros, en su trayecto cruza varias veces la cordillera de los Andes, junto con bordear el litoral y los fiordos de la Patagonia Occidental, para luego internarse en los bosques australes siempre verdes, acercándose a numerosos glaciares, grandes lagos y los ventisqueros de los Campos de Hielo Norte para finalizar en Villa O’Higgins, a unos cuantos kilómetros del Campo de Hielo Sur.

Lake Yelcho is a large lake located 40 km south of Chaiten. It is well known for its emerald green waters and for being an excellent place for sport fishing, so that on its banks there are numerous shelters. It is surrounded by high mountains and a leafy vegetation of temperate Patagonian evergreen rainforest. At the mouth of the lake where the Yelcho River is born, one of the landmarks of the Carretera Austral is located in Puerto Cardenas, a suspension bridge of 250 meters long built in 1989 the first of its kind in the country. This bridge allowed to connect almost unexplored territories in the XX century south of the Austral Highway and link the Region of Aysen with the Region of the Lakes. The road borders the lake in much of its extension offering beautiful views of the natural surroundings as well as also allows easy access to the Yelcho Glacier trail.
