KWF-B2700 Olleh WiBro egg

If you want to have internet when you are visiting South Korea, you should rent one of these devices. In some countries, they are called mifi devices, Koreans call them egg (because of the first famous model was egg shaped and coloured).

They are using the 4G network technology called WiBro, which is a sort of spinoff/merge of Wimax.

It cost us 8000 won/day the first 10 days, the days following only 4000 won. Data usage is unlimited.

The model KWF-B2700 that we got worked very well. To use it, just turn it on, it will create a wifi WPA2 protected accesspoint. SSID and password are printed on the device and you can connect 7 devices at the same time.

It will however not always last 9 hours as advertised if you use it much. It felt like it was more like 6-7. However, if you make sure to turn it off whenever you don't use it, you can squeeze out much more. It boots very fast. About 10 seconds. It charges via a normal micro usb charger. I brought a Belkin Battery Pack 2000mAh, mostly to extend the battery life of my phone. That worked great for this device as well.

It hanged once. Looked like it was turned on, but no network visible and the power button stopped working. Just a reset with a paperclip on the back helped.

The network has good coverage in the big cities, even in the subway system. We were mostly in Seoul and Busan. It stopped working when we took a tour to the North Korean border and the connection was very spotty on the KTX train between Seoul and Busan. It also has pretty limited coverage whenever you are in a basement.
