Grayslake Cemetery
Camera: 420
Film: FP-3000B
Originally part of a land grant issued by then-president James Polk, to build it and the adjacent school (best-known as Lakeview Elementary, now Westlake Christian Academy), the Grayslake Cemetery was founded in 1863 after its owners donated the land. Each year a cemetery walk is hosted in the fall by the Grayslake Historical Society; which features costumed characters acting as, and telling the stories of the village's early history and its earliest, well-known residents.
Although there are only 137 plots, some 400 people are buried here. Many of the century-old headstones have deteriorated and vanished over the years.
