A Big Job

It was this visit in which I was reminded of the area's severe economic state...

After shooting here and moving to 151st street, a man approached me as I was setting up, and for the next half-hour begged me for a job. It happened that I had set up my ladder near one of the demolition company's signs, and he thought I was working for them.

The guy, who told me he's been a Harvey resident since 1967, kept asking me to do all sorts of things to help him get a job; walk with him to the security booth to fill out a job app (which I already knew and tried to explain they don't have), asking for my info so I could vouch for him if employers called me, etc. I hate that I couldn't help him but he didn't seem to understand the fact that I'm some guy he had just met. I had to give him a ton of bullshit so he'd ease off.

It doesn't help that when Dixie is gone, the jobs will probably go with it.
