Like Father, Like Son

This 17-room, 11-acre estate in Grayslake once belonged to Wesley Sears; the son of Sears-Roebuck and Co. department store co-founder: Richard Sears.

Unfortunately, like his fathers company, the 1938-built mansion may be on its deathbed--after serving as the Country Squire restaurant for many decades, the property was sold last week to the neighboring Grayslake campus of Northwestern-Lake Forest Hospital, and the restaurant immediately, and suddenly vacated.

Reports of the buildings fate are conflicting; some say the building has a death warrant, while others say LFH is reviewing the property. Regardless, Lake County may be set to lose yet another piece of its heritage to "progress".
