Atmospheric Theatre

The Palace is what's known as an "atmospheric" theater; its architecture is designed to not look so much like you're in a building, but rather under a dark sky.

 

I've read somewhere that there were actually many tiny holes in the suspended ceiling, which when lit from behind, gave the illusion of stars on a night sky.
