Built in 1926 for the Balaban & Katz chain, on the site of the Iroquois Theater tragedy. The architects were Rapp & Rapp. Ceased movie screenings in the early-1980s with the decline of the Loop's theater district; restored into a performing arts venue in 1996 and primarily hosts Broadway acts.
The official name of this house is the "Ford Center for Performing Arts Oriental Theatre", however it is to be renamed after the late theater owner and Broadway in Chicago founder, James M. Nederlander, in February 2019.
