Randhurst Mall -- 1966

"Randhurst Shopping Center -- Serving the Chicago northwest suburban area with the finest shops available."

Postcard of Randhurst Mall in 1966 showing the Carson Pirie Scott & Company department store, and a glimpse of Jewel Food Store.

The Carson's building at this time featured a unique mix of color lighting on its exterior at night. A postcard of the night view shows up on eBay once in awhile.

Carson's stayed in this building until 1990, when Bergner's (who had just purchased Carson Pirie Scott in 1989, and was occupying the former Wieboldt's building) closed. They would then move into the former Wieboldt's store, allowing JCPenney to take over this anchor.

The JCPenney closed in 2001 after being classified as "underperforming". Jewel would sometime before that relocate to an outparcel store with an Osco Drug (built on the former site of the Randhurst Ice Arena). This entire area was demolished for a Costco Wholesale store that opened in 2004. The rest of the mall's core closed 9/30/08 and is under redevelopment.

Postcard was an eBay find; the guy accidentally enabled the "larger image" feature which was large enough that it was worth grabbing.
