Carson Pirie Scott - Woodmar
Carson's depicted with new signage in an artist's rendering for the Hammond Sportsplex.
Built in 1954 for the originally-outdoor, later-enclosed, ultimately-demolished Woodmar Shopping Center. Victor Gruen designed this store in the shape of a pentagon. It was originally two-floors but had a third added sometime in the 60s, I believe. It was, at this point, the oldest store in the chain.
Was spared from demo once to build a sports complex, next door, but with Carson's going out of business the city of Hammond has already expressed intentions to demolish this aging, massive store.
